Houston's Montrose Neighborhood: The Insider's Food Guide

The Neighborhood

Montrose is Houston's cultural center — a dense, walkable pocket of restaurants, galleries, and bars that reflects the city's extraordinary diversity. The food here is not just good. It is some of the best and most diverse dining in America.

Uchi Houston

Tyson Cole's Austin export thrives in Houston. The wagyu tataki and the tempura Brussels sprouts are essential orders. The omakase is worth the splurge. This is Japanese-inspired cuisine at the highest level in Texas.

Underbelly Hospitality

Chris Shepherd's empire celebrates Houston's immigrant food communities. The Korean braised goat changed how the food world thinks about Texas dining.

Nancy's Hustle

The neighborhood restaurant everyone wishes they had. Small, seasonal, unfussy. The fried bread with crab butter is the best thing you'll eat this week. No reservations — put your name in and walk to the bar next door.

Pho Binh

The original location on Travis Street. No frills, no English menu, no compromises. The pho is transcendent. Cash preferred.

The Breakfast Klub

The line is always long. The chicken and waffles are always worth it. Get there before 9 AM on Saturday or accept your fate.

Houston doesn't get the food recognition it deserves. Montrose is the correction.
